September 11, 2008 - New Focus Today our daughter was born. This new joy means I won't be working on the layout for awhile. September 7, 2008 - Layout Progress Over the past month, I have added the roadbed for the staging and yard areas. The track work for both is started as well. For more on the layout construction, check out the construction log page. August 15, 2008 - Another Try at a Layout In July, 18 months after moving, the new Scotts-dale Division layout was started. It took lots of though and numerous compromises to get "now" layout instead of the "dream" layout, still it will be great to have trains running again. Now the bench work is complete and laying roadbed is underway. For more on the Layout, check out the Track Plan page. It is Fall of 2004 and the Scotts-dale Division (SDD) has recently been formed. The SDD is a short line business unit of the Norfolk Southern Railroad (similar to the NC Unit). The line consists of two branch lines and non adjacent yard. The branch lines takes off from the NS (old Norfolk & Western) Mainline between Welch and Bluefield, WV. The yard is located in the fictional town of Scotts-dale, giving the division its name. |

The SDD is modeled in N Scale (1:160). The layout is an 8' x 9' L shape built on custom bench work. Minimum radius is 15 inches for mainline and 12.5 inches for branch line. Mainline turnouts are #7 while yard and branch line turnouts are #5. Code 55 flex track is used. The details can be found under the Layout section of this site. |
