In 2010 I've been focusing on working on my NMRA Master Model Railroader. As it turns out, I'd done much of the necessary work for MMR over the past 5 years, but had never done the paper work. Working with fellow model railroaders and our local AP representative, we completed our paper work for several AP awards this year. Chief Dispatcher Last year, one of our group did a clinic on planning operations which gave each of us a better understanding of operations. Also, this summer our Division held a clinic and operating sessions. Based on these clinics, I was able to develop the initial plan for operations on the SDD and finished my hours on a friends layout. I've posted my Chief Dispatcher write-up to help others get started. AP Author To finish AP Author required submitting a couple new article in addition to previous ones I've published. On of the key portions of the rules is that the article does not need to be published, but accepted by the editor is sufficient. This was a key insight for me and paved the way to AP Author. I built a spreadsheet to track progress towards the 42 points requied for AP Author. The spreadsheet is available for downloading. The first step was to count the points for the articles I've published on DCC at my website DCC by Design. The next step was to find the handouts for the clinics I've given. Then count the points for articles that have been published in Local and Regional Newsletters. After completing these three steps, I was short enough points. Based on my research I started writing article and submitted them to the local newsletter for the final points. |
