When tracks are laid, the SDD will operate solely with volunteer support.

Below are some of the job types that will be available for volunteers (parenthesis indicate NMRA job category where it is not clear):

Dispatcher is responsible for controlling movement of all trains. The Dispatcher will use the provided computer and Traffic Control (TC) system, as well as radio communication to direct trains, adjusting movements as needed to maintain schedule. The Dispatcher will control all main line turnouts, as well as staging. The Dispatcher shall control the entrance from Arrival/Departure Tracks at Scottsdale, but shall coordinate with the Yard Foremen for train movements on these tracks.

Local Engineers operate their trains either on mainline or branch line and will meet the requirements of Mainline Engineers. In addition, they shall perform all required switching with approval from the Dispatcher in a manner not to adversely affect the overall railroad schedule or operations.  

Mainline Engineers  operate their mainline trains between Williamson and Norfolk as applicable. Engineers shall run their train in a manner that simulates the prototype, following the SDD Operating Rules and Employee Timetable, and operating according to the TC system or by direct instruction of the Dispatcher. Engineers shall meet their consist either at the engine servicing facility or on the Arrival/Departure Track depending on location.

Yard Foreman (Yardmaster) is responsible for all yard operations, including granting permission to enter yard or yard drill track. The Yard Foreman's primary job is to makes up trains with the appropriate cars in the desired numbers to have trains ready when the timetable or Dispatcher requires them. To properly execute this duty, the Yard Foreman shall develop the switching plan to assemble trains, direct movements of Yard Engine, and control turnouts necessary for operation. When the SDD is short staffed, the Yard Foreman will operate the Yard Engine in addition to his normal duties.

 

Cue sheets will be provided for all assignments.
