What's New

December, 2010

Started update to the site to capture the work done for NMRA Chief Dispatcher and for development of operations on the SDD layout. Added new sections for Prototype, SDD railroad (fictional operations as basis of layout), and Modeling including my NMRA MMR work.

Received my NMRA Author AP award today, four down and three to go. I've posted my paperwork here so that others working on Author can review to better understand how to do their own application.

November, 2010 - Volunteer

Received my NMRA Association Volunteer AP award, three down and four to go. Again, I've had the requirements done for a long time, but this summer finally sat down and completed the paperwork, along with some friends.

October, 2010 - Chief Dispatcher

Received my NMRA Chief Dispatcher AP award, two down and five to go. I've posted my paperwork here so that others working on Chief Dispatcher can review to better understand how to do their own application.

September, 2010 - Electrical

Received my NMRA Master Builder - Electrical AP award today, one down and six to go. I've had the requirements done for a long time (and a couple of times over), but this summer finally sat down and completed the paperwork, along with some friends.

January 3, 2009 - Layout Progress

It has been a bout 6 months since the SDD layout construction started. At times it has been very slow going. Still, enough has been completed to hold the first operating session today. Full News Update

About the Layout About the SDD
The SDD is modeled in N Scale (1:160). The layout is an 8' x 9' L shape built on custom bench work. Minimum radius is 15 inches for mainline and 12.5 inches for branch line. Mainline turnouts are #7 while yard and branch line turnouts are #5. Code 55 flex track is used. The details can be found under the Layout section of this site. It is Fall of 2004 and the Scotts-dale Division (SDD) has recently been formed. The SDD is a short line business unit of the Norfolk Southern Railroad (similar to the NC Unit). The line consists of two branch lines and non adjacent yard. The branch lines takes off from the NS (old Norfolk & Western) Mainline between Welch and Bluefield, WV.  The yard is located in the fictional town of Scotts-dale, giving the division its name.
